Youngest ever competitor signs up for VELUX 5 OCEANS

Oscar, a 19 years old boy, will sail alone around the world. One of the most enthusiastic sailors in Britain has confirmed his entry for the oldest solo race around the world – Velux 5 Oceans in 2010. Oscar Mead will be aligned against most famous sailors in the world for the 30,000-mile race that begins in France in October.
Oscar took the front page since last year after becoming, at the age of 18, the youngest person ever competed for the Original Singlehanded Transatlantic Race (OSTAR). Now, a year older, the young seafarer is unstoppable, and has set his goal on the sea the Velux 5 Oceans big challenge, known as the Ultimate Solo Challenge. Being the youngest skipper to take nine months of grueling tours around the world, he said the Velux 5 Oceans will not be considered an affair, but a competition that he tries to win.
Legendary sailor around the world and Clipper Ventures Chairman, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, said Oscar is a very talented young seafarer, with much potential, as demonstrated the year before, when he crossed the Atlantic in OSTAR.
Led by Clipper Ventures PLC, Velux 5 Oceans starts from La Rochelle in France on October 17 and features five ocean sprints. After heading from La Rochelle to Cape Town, the race will then take in Wellington in New Zealand, Salvador in Brazil and Charleston in the US before returning back across the Atlantic to France.
